Golf clubs

Wednesday, November 7th, 2007 by admin

Each golf club is made up of a shaft with a grip and a clubhead – which is the part that connects with the ball. There are several different designs of clubs, falling into three main categories: woods - which are used for long-distance shots on the fairway; irons – which are the most versatile clubs that are used for a many different shots, and putters – which are almost always used on the green to push the ball into the cup.

Golfers can have no more than 14 different golf clubs in one set at one time. A full set is made up of a driver, two fairway woods, a set of irons, a pitching wedge, a sand wedge, a putter, and one club of whatever the player wants. Most players choose not to have the 3 and 4 irons because they are more difficult to use.

One other common variation that golfers use are the 3, 5, 7 and 9 out of the numbered irons. The golfer’s bag (which is an important part of golf equipment) has extra space for more woods and other clubs of their choice that make it easier for the player to put power behind their golf shots.
